Dendroclock is a generative artwork that transforms real-time environmental data from the city where it is installed into a visual climate diary. Inspired by dendrochronology — the science of studying climate history through the growth rings of trees — the work generates a digital trunk, adding a new ring every hour and thus creating a tangible and visual memory of atmospheric conditions.

Using machine learning and generative algorithms, the digital trunk grows organically, adapting the thickness, spacing, and irregularity of its rings in response to three environmental variables: temperature, humidity, and fine particulate matter. In this way, time is no longer measured in numbers, but through the invisible matter of air and climate, tracing the footprint of the surrounding environment.

The digital trunk becomes a biological clock, mutable and sensitive to the city’s breath, giving visible form to what would otherwise remain unseen.
